Today we very quickly go around the content of the LEGO DREAMZzz set 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl, a small box of 437 pieces which will be available from January 1, 2024 at the public price of €49.99.
I might as well tell you right away rather than pretending to marvel at this product derived from the animated series currently available on many platforms including Netflix and YouTube, I find this product overall very disappointing.
The cat-owl Zian indeed plays a fairly important role in the series, he is even present in the LEGO DREAMZzz /Ninjago crossover entitled Dream Team put online recently, and above all it has the appearance of a large, visually very successful plush toy that the plastic version really struggles to embody. In my opinion, the proposed construction does not really do justice to the majestic ball of fur seen on the screen, except perhaps for the pad-printed look which is consistent and more or less fitting.
Those who know the character were undoubtedly entitled to expect a slightly more ambitious derivative product from LEGO concerning him, this economical version sorely lacks ambition while other places or characters which are largely more secondary benefit from more attention from LEGO.
If we put aside the somewhat failed attempt to convert into bricks a character who would have found salvation in the plush section, the construction process is not uninteresting. We assemble as usual the section common to the two variants which will be proposed later in the pages of the instruction booklet and we then choose the version that we wish to assemble.
The cat in its intermediate version uses a large portion of the inventory, the variants simply adding wings or a colored halo at the bottom of the back. In both cases, there are only a few pieces left on the tile and converting one way or the other only takes a few minutes, with returning to the intermediate point before the fork being quite easy.
Zian is (a little) articulated but his mobility remains very limited due to the use of macaroni for the legs. These parts make it possible to obtain visually acceptable curves but they only allow little movement. However, we can have fun with the ends of the legs, the "hips" and the tail of the animal, its adjustable head and obviously the wings associated with one of the two variants.
Alongside the main construction, we are also assembling a mini flying motorcycle for Cooper as well as a platform to install the N (Night Hunter). These additional elements are not very inspired but they provide playability to the product and it is an important detail in a range intended for a very young audience.
The supply of figurines is rather substantial here, almost as an excuse to make up for the rest which may seem a little sloppy. Zoey rides Zian, Cooper brandishes his hammer while riding his flying motorcycle, the Night Hunter sprays all these beautiful people with Stud Shooters installed on its platform and all the bad guys are equipped with chains which will allow the cat-owl to be immobilized for the duration of a gaming session.
The pad printing is as usual of a very high level, the accessories developed specifically for this range are numerous and we feel that LEGO has not skimped on these details. If you're wondering where you've already seen the bow with its ejectable arrows used by Zoey, it's in the LEGO Avatar set 75577 Mako Submarine (€54.99) marketed since the beginning of 2023.
This box placed in the soft pricing belly of the range is therefore in my opinion not the most successful but we can console ourselves by saying that Zian is finally entitled to a dedicated set which highlights this aesthetically very aesthetic cat-owl character. original on screen. The plastic version is not of the expected level, but it's still better than nothing. Don't focus too much on the announced price of €50, this box will be available for much less elsewhere than at LEGO and from its launch, it will then be within pocket money for young fans of this universe.
