Today we are interested in the LEGO Minecraft set 21156 BigFig Creeper and Ocelot (184 pieces - 14.99 €), one of the two boxes of the series of "collectible figurines" available in the LEGO Minecraft range with the references 21157 BigFig Pig with Bay Zombie (2020) 21148 BigFig Steve with Parrot (2019) 21149 Alex BigFig with Chicken (2019) et 21150 Skeleton BigFig with Magma Cube (2019)
The Creeper is undoubtedly an emblematic character of the game that even those who have only played it for a few minutes before realizing that this universe was not for them know. The creature is also often considered the official symbol of the game, it is present on almost all the communication media used by the publisher and is the subject of many derivative products. Here the Creeper is associated with an Ocelot, a creature that keeps the Creeper at a distance when it accompanies the player.
Beyond the playful possibilities offered by this small set, it is the collectible spirit that is highlighted in these boxes bringing together two relatively detailed reproductions of emblematic characters from the Minecraft universe. The Creeper is rather well done here, even if the exterior texture of the character in the LEGO version is much less "pixelated" than that of the virtual version of the creature.
The shapes are there, the feet and the head can be oriented to obtain interesting poses and the object can easily sit on a corner of your desk alongside other products reflecting your video game culture.
You don't have to expect much from the assembly phase of the two creatures, it's done in a few minutes. We will appreciate the sub-assembly based on Technic elements which makes it possible to orient the four feet of the character, even if these parts are not completely concealed. There are no stickers to stick in this set, the textures are made by alternating small pieces in different colors and the rest is pad-printed.
Small amusing detail, there is a hatch in the head of the Creeper which hides a room representing a unit of gunpowder recoverable when the creature is dead. Two items are provided for added realism, with the Creeper occasionally dropping up to two units of Gunpowder.
You can also have fun shaking the figurine and the rattling obtained by the movement of the part in its housing will be reminiscent of the noise emitted by the creature before exploding. Too bad for the back of the Creeper which is not as well "dressed" as the front.
The ocelot is also very simplified in terms of textures even if the proportions of the animal seem to me very faithful to the digital version. LEGO provides a fish that can be used to gain the animal's trust by fixing it in its mouth. The detail is interesting for those who are used to the game.
In summary, these two constructions are perfect for decorating an office or enthroned on a shelf in a child's room passionate about the world of Minecraft. You'd think the game was dead, but it still has a huge following of hardcore fans and it's no surprise that many manufacturers including LEGO continue to release merchandise.
If you have a young fan of the game in your entourage, you can't go wrong by offering him this little set sold for €14.99: the Creeper is an emblematic creature of the game and the LEGO version is a gift that will inevitably be very appreciated.
Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 29th February 2020 next at 23pm.
Update : The winner was drawn and was notified by email, his nickname is indicated below. Without a response from him to my request for contact details within 5 days, a new winner will be drawn.
