lego monkie kid 80028 bone demon 8 1

Today we are quickly interested in the last of the three sets of the LEGO Monkie Kid range marketed since July 1: the reference 80028 The Bone Demon sold at the public price of 109.99 €. With 1373 pieces, it is the biggest box of this summer wave of a range which already totals more than twenty sets since its launch in 2020.

The purpose of this new product: to assemble the Bone Demon, a creature inspired by the demon Bai Gu Jing present in the Chinese folk tale Journey to the west. The legend serving more or less as a reference to the universe of the Monkie Kid range, the references are numerous but are often integrated in a more or less faithful way.

To achieve the promised result, LEGO proposes to build several small elements which, when combined with each other, will form the demon, about forty centimeters high. Each of the sub-sets is rather convincing even if we inevitably notice the pieces that will be used to compose the main creature of the set. An axis that protrudes from a spider or a Ball joint which remains in the void on the body of the scorpion, it was necessary to anticipate the possibility of bringing all the elements together later.

It will be difficult to go straight to building the demon itself without following the instructions exactly. Those who would like to take a shortcut risk getting lost along the way between the various modifications to be made to each of the sub-assemblies that are brought together at the end of the third booklet. The easiest way is to follow the proposed progression so as not to miss any step and have to tediously go back through the assembly process.

Taken separately, the different elements of the set allow you to have a little fun but above all they shout their desire to join the scorpion to give life to the Bone Demon. We could have imagined being able to directly assemble the creature and possibly then separate the different elements to flesh out a playset, but no one would have really benefited from these few spiders, this scorpion and the two ancillary constructions.

You would also have expected a model that only reuses some of the sub-assemblies but the final creature uses almost all the elements of the set except the columns of the white portico which do not integrate the construction. We cannot escape an imposing sheet of stickers, some of which are on a transparent background so as not to penalize the phosphorescence of the pieces on which they are placed.

The body of the scorpion serves as a base for the demon, then we fix the lair of Lady Bone Demon on which we clip the claws of the scorpion which become the arms of the creature, we add the decoration of the portico for the head and the two large white spiders with turned legs come to dress the shoulders. Two sabers are provided so that the creature can face the Monkie Kid installed on his side in his mini-mech propelled by a motor cloud.

Le Bone Demon is ultimately very stable and the set of phosphorescent pieces really gives it allure in the dark. Up close, the finish is not of an exceptional level, but the model deserves to be observed from a distance to really benefit from the result obtained thanks to the assembly of the different modules.

As for the minifigs delivered in this box, the Monkie Kid benefits from a torso which is for the moment exclusive to this set and the rest of the elements that make up the figurine are available in other boxes of the range. The young hero has three versions of his staff here, with a large-format weapon for the mech, an intermediate version and the usual accessory.

Mei's minifig is the one already seen in other boxes since the beginning of the year, the young girl comes with her hair and her helmet, she can be staged in her flight outfit by recovering the wings of the cloud which allows the mech to move through the air.

More interesting, the two Bone Spirits are equipped with torsos whose arms are phosphorescent, it is also the case for the heads of these two identical creatures which rest on the purple part used for the overlords of the Ninjago range in 2019. The arms and head of the White Bone Demon are not phosphorescent but the character is available in two versions with an angelic face and the other more aggressive and the possibility of replacing the bottom of the dress by the piece that also equips both Bone Spirits. The pad prints are impeccable, nothing to say.

Two additional skeleton heads to be placed in the pots carried by the large spiders are provided, they are not phosphorescent.

Once again, the Monkie Kid range does not disappoint me with a product that takes advantage of all that the LEGO concept has to offer: The playset is made up of many elements that are self-sufficient and do not just serve as a pretext to the assembly of the creature. Upon arrival, the Bone Demon maximizes the use of these different elements and the result is visually very convincing in my opinion. If I were younger I would be over the moon with a product like this.

As for the other boxes in the range, it will be difficult to find this box at a lower price than that charged by LEGO: the manufacturer does not distribute this range to its resellers in France and only markets these products intended primarily for the Asian market because that he has undertaken to no longer offer "geographic exclusivity".

Note: The set presented here, provided by LEGO, is as usual involved. Deadline fixed at August 3, 2021 next at 23pm. For newcomers, know that you just need to post a comment to participate in the draw.
