05/01/2020 - 12:53 In my opinion... LEGO Star Wars

75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder

Today we quickly tour the LEGO Star Wars set 75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder (236 pieces - € 29.99), one of those multiple reinterpretations of machines, vehicles or ships from the Star Wars universe that allows newcomers to the LEGO hobby to get an affordable version of the machine without having to go through the secondary market.

The latest version of the Landspeeder X-34 was from 2017 with the set 75173 Luke's Landspeeder. For 29.99 €, we then obtained a completely acceptable version of the machine and 4 characters. This year, we have to settle for the same price of 3 minifigs and a small additional construction without much interest.

As with each new version of a product that is permanently maintained in the LEGO catalog, the designer has endeavored here to offer us a revised version of the Landspeeder. The machine remains very close to the 2017 version but it benefits from a few adjustments which seem to me to be significant in terms of fixing the engines or finishing the front, even if we have to rely on a few stickers here. .

Some perfectionists will regret the gap between the edge of the front of the machine and the half-moon that forms the hood. You can see it as a stylistic effect or the nonchalance of a designer in a hurry to move on.

Again, the Landspeeder does not really float above the ground. The few transparent parts placed under the machine allow it to slide on all types of surfaces, but when it comes to exposing the whole it will be necessary to find a solution allowing to give a little height to the vehicle. Too bad that LEGO does not provide us with a transparent central support, two pieces would be enough.

No innovation in the windshield, which is identical to the one already used on the 2010 version, and it would be time for LEGO to offer us a more realistic half-bubble. On the other hand, I welcome the effort on the seats, the backs of which are here much more convincing than on the previous version.

As for the minifigs delivered in this small box, nothing transcendent for an informed collector: the three characters are versions already available in other boxes.

The pad printing of the torso and legs of the minifigure of Luke Skywalker is identical to that seen in the sets 75159 Death Star (2016) 75173 Luker's Landspeeder (2017) 75220 Sandcrawler (2018) 75229 Death Star Escape or even 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut (2020). I'm not a fan of the new poncho delivered here, although I welcome the effort to provide us with this item. I find the accessory really too basic and poorly cut, knowing that on screen it also covers the arms of the character.

C3-PO and the Jawa are also regulars in the LEGO Star Wars range and no effort has been made in this box to try to bait us with at least one exclusive torso.

There are about ten stickers to stick on the model and, better, I find them very appropriate, especially with regard to the engines. I also prefer the solution implemented here on the side of the vehicle to the one based on flexible tubes used on the machine in the set. 75173 Luker's Landspeeder and on that of the set 75052 Mos Eisley Winery (2014)

75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder

In short, the Landspeeder is a chestnut tree from the LEGO Star Wars range and in my opinion it is always a good idea to acquire the most recent model for those who do not already have their copy.

This new version does not revolutionize the theme and does not correct all the faults of the multiple versions already marketed so far, but it will do the trick by combining it with the elements of the set. 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut also marketed for a few days.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 15th January 2020 next at 23pm.

Update : The winner was drawn and was notified by email, his nickname is indicated below. Without a response from him to my request for contact details within 5 days, a new winner will be drawn.
