LEGO Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500

I hadn't forgotten the LEGO Creator Expert set 10271 Fiat 500, but this box of 960 pieces sold for 84.99 € arrived at my place after the launch of the product and it is therefore only today that I give you some impressions of this set of which you already know almost everything.

To be honest, I am one of those who find that this Fiat 500 in a LEGO version only looks very similar to the model from which it was inspired. Once again, LEGO is venturing in my opinion on slippery ground with this set which tries as best it can to reproduce a car with very pronounced curves, as was already the case in 2018 for the Aston Martin of the set. 10262 James Bond Aston Martin DB5. I still welcome the risk-taking even if the end result seems to me far from being up to what we can expect from the world leader in toys in 2020.

Paradoxically, I also think that the designer is doing honorably on many points given the almost impossible challenge to meet while respecting the technical and financial constraints imposed by the manufacturer. A few MOCeurs have also engaged in the exercise, with a result that seems more convincing to me, but little is known about the strength of their creations and their ability to eventually be marketed as is.

LEGO Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500

LEGO Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500

On this official model, everything is fine until we start to assemble the different body parts. We quickly realize that the Fiat 500 in the LEGO version will unfortunately not have the curves of the reference model and the front gradually takes the form of a Polish Fiat 126 while the rear evolves into the design of 'a Diane (Citroën), in particular because of windows that were too flat and straight to really pay homage to the Fiat 500. The designer still managed to fit two examples of the glass already seen on the canopy of the stadium from the LEGO set. Creator Expert 10272 Old Trafford - Manchester United, but these elements which could have been useful for a reproduction of the Fiat Multipla do not ultimately add much to this model.

The small engine placed at the rear is among the most successful elements of the set, with a very satisfactory level of detail. The upholstery is also very correct with a rear bench and front seats which bring a welcome touch of color to this model whose body in "Cool yellow"may seem a little bland. We note that the folding front seats are fixed to the floor via nougat-colored arms already seen in particular on the ice cream cone in the set The LEGO Movie 2 70822 Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER!.

The driving position benefits from an exemplary finish and nothing has been forgotten: gear lever, mobile handbrake, speedometer, adjustable steering wheel with pad-printed Fiat logo, everything is there. The interior of the doors is also very well done with a trim that incorporates the color Dark Red seats and handles. The trunk placed at the front accommodates a spare wheel (without hubcap) which slips in front of the tank. There is nothing to say about the interior of the vehicle, it is faithful to the reference model and is detailed enough for a model in the LEGO Creator Expert range.

Things go wrong when it comes to returning to the body parts and installing the rear window, windshield and roof equipped with a movable tarpaulin. It's angular and really too flat with a very unsightly staircase effect at the back. The side beads which try to reproduce the hooking of the bodywork at this point help to reinforce the impression that the vehicle is "pointing" upwards. To me, the real Fiat 500 is a pretty "little ball" and I don't get that feeling here.

LEGO Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500

LEGO Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500

Seen from the side, this Fiat 500 reveals the stacking of parts characteristic of vehicles from the LEGO Creator Expert range. We like it or not, but we can't blame the designer for having respected the codes of the range. We will note some differences in color between the different yellow pieces, with for example some tiles which are slightly darker than conventional bricks.

Regarding the front side windows, the designer has not complicated the task: there are none. More annoying, the absence of mirrors and the single wiper present on the reference model. The addition of two mirrors would however have made it possible to give a little volume to the front and to satisfy the purists. On the roof, the tarpaulin consists of a very fine fabric element which does its job when handling the mechanism. I'm not a fan of these fabric-based shortcuts but here it was hard to do otherwise to stay true to the real Fiat 500.

To remind us that this is an Italian vehicle and incidentally a Fiat 500, LEGO is adding in the box an easel with a painting on the background of the Colosseum and some accessories. We are in the absolute cliché and the presence of the reference vehicle on the table in my opinion only reinforces the impression that what we have just built is not really a Fiat 500 ... The suitcase to be fixed on the rear luggage rack is welcome, it is covered with stickers but it brings a nice finishing touch to the model. LEGO also provides three sets of interchangeable license plates with Italian, German and Danish versions.

In summary, I think that the vehicle to be built here is largely of the level of what one would expect from a model of the LEGO Creator Expert range in terms of the pleasure of assembly, the complexity of the techniques used and the level interior detail. Unfortunately, the experience is marred a bit by an exterior appearance which is far from paying homage to the benchmark vehicle.

The LEGO fan is often very indulgent with the manufacturer, I know that many of you will be content with this little yellow car even if it only vaguely resembles a Fiat 500. For my part, I expect a little more serious when it comes to offering a model in a "LEGO Creator Expert" version and I think that there are challenges that you have to know to leave aside if you do not intend to invest to produce the parts necessary to obtain an acceptable result.

31104 Monster Burger Truck

Today we are quickly interested in the LEGO Creator set 31104 Monster Burger Truck, a 3 in 1 box of 499 pieces sold at the public price of 54.99 € since the beginning of the year 2020. As soon as the first visuals of the product were available, fans had shown a certain enthusiasm for this food truck placed on a fitted chassis. big wheels and after assembling the machine I think the first impressions are confirmed.

The product does not disappoint and everything is there: the pleasure of construction, the many details that make this food truck a product with a devastating look, the modularity of the vehicle which makes it really playable and the small number of stickers (3) to stick .

The vehicle is a classic food truck placed on an oversized chassis. The base truck therefore retains its classic wheel arches which help to highlight the incongruous combination of the two elements and in my opinion it is visually very successful. The chassis benefits from basic but effective suspensions, simply based on movable axles connected by a flexible white bar which does its job very well.
The vehicle is designed to offer maximum playability with a removable roof that allows you to really take advantage of the interior space with its very complete layout. The two rear doors allow storage of the table with its parasol and the two chairs when traveling, a logical choice for a food truck.

The somewhat annoying detail: to facilitate the passage and withdrawal of orders by customers, the designer has provided a retractable ladder whose steps are unfortunately not completely horizontal once the element is deployed and it is therefore difficult to place a minifigure there.

31104 Monster Burger Truck

Since this is a food truck that serves burgers, it was imperative to integrate a sign on the roof of the vehicle. Here too, it is nicely done with a large burger to be fixed on the tilting stand. From certain angles, we can still make out a little the Technic beam which serves as a support, but it is ultimately plausible. The interior layout of the kitchen is enough to have a little fun: bottles, microwave, mustard, ketchup, slice of bread, cash register and even a fire extinguisher, it's enough to get in the mood .

The promise of this range of LEGO Creator 3 in 1 sets is also and above all to offer, as indicated on the box, the possibility of assembling three different models using the inventory provided. It was therefore essential not to be satisfied with mounting the main model to get an informed opinion on this product and to go to the end of the concept by discovering the other two models offered.

The result is clear: as too often, this set does not really take advantage of the possibilities offered by the assortment of parts delivered in the box. At a time when many MOCeurs are able to offer creations using almost the entire set serving as a starting point, I find that what LEGO offers us here lacks a little ambition.

31104 Monster Burger Truck

The all-terrain vehicle to assemble is interesting, but it leaves a large batch of unused parts on the table, including the main model's suspensions and exhaust system. A little paradoxical for a large all-terrain vehicle. The parts decorated with stickers, the food truck menu, the sign placed on the front and the license plate, are logically put aside. The third model, a competition tractor with a trailer without wheels, is a bit disappointing and it also skips a very significant portion of the inventory.

The assembly of the two alternative models prolongs the pleasure a little, but we quickly realize that the designer did not really try to meet the challenge until the end. It's a bit sloppy, especially with the tractor and its trailer, and that's a shame. The theme of the burger could also have been common to the three models by reusing the parts of the big food truck sign that all remain on the floor with the two alternative vehicles.

The two supplied minifigs are always good to take even if the young boy's torso is a classic from the LEGO CITY range. That of the mustached driver and rarer, it was only delivered in 2019 in The LEGO Movie 2 sets 70836 Battle-Ready Batman and MetalBeard et 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg. The (big) buildable dog does not survive the assembly of the two alternative models of the set because some of its parts are used for the offroad and the tractor.

31104 Monster Burger Truck

In summary, I think the title Creator 3 in 1 is once again a little too pretentious for a set with limited possibilities. Disassembling the food truck to assemble one of the other two models and then find that a large part of the inventory remains unused is a little disappointing, especially at 55 € the concept. Instead of botching the thing by really breaking its promises, LEGO could have sold us this Monster Burger Truck € 30 or € 40 without alternate instructions, that was just as good.

30453 Captain Marvel & Nick Fury

Time to take a look at the polybag 30453 LEGO Captain Marvel & Nick Fury a copy of which was sent to me by LEGO, although we do not know if this bag of 32 pieces will one day be offered directly by the manufacturer or if it will end up at the bottom of a bin in the toys department of a particular brand . While waiting for a hypothetical arrival in France of this bag, we know that it is already on sale for a little less than $ 5 at Walmart in the USA.

The context of this polybag is not difficult to guess for those who have seen the movie Captain Marvel: It reproduces a scene in which the superheroine comes into contact with her sidekicks by calling them through a phone booth. The Captain Marvel minifig is here in Starforce version and it is indeed the same figurine as the one delivered in the set 77902 Captain Marvel and the Asis (271 pieces) sold during San Diego Comic Con 2019. Nice pad printing on the chest, desperately neutral arms and legs, it's minimum service but the minifig does the job.

Captain Marvel

The other minifig provided in this polybag is that of Nick Fury seen in the LEGO Marvel set 76127 Captain Marvel and The Skrull Attack (307 pieces - 29.99 €) marketed since the beginning of last year.

LEGO is missing an opportunity to offer us a version of the character whose outfit would be more faithful to that of Samuel L. Jackson in the scene concerned. namely with a jacket over his shirt. I already said it in my review of the set 76127 Captain Marvel and The Skrull Attack : We do not necessarily recognize Samuel L. Jackson, but we know that it is him so we will end up convincing ourselves that there is a resemblance between the figurine and the actor.

30453 Captain Marvel & Nick Fury

30453 Captain Marvel & Nick Fury

The rest of the contents of the bag allow to assemble a telephone booth without much interest and to dress the thing using the few accessories provided: a video cassette also seen in the LEGO Jurassic World set 75935 Baryonyx Face-off: The Treasure Hunt (434 pieces - 69.99 €) marketed in 2019, a rather common control panel, a walkie-talkie and a keyboard which here symbolizes the Gameboy seen in the scene concerned. LEGO does not forget to add a copy of the Tesseract casually placed next to the telephone booth, just to please the fans.

This polybag therefore has above all the merit of allowing all those who refuse to spend more than a hundred euros to afford a copy of the set. 77902 Captain Marvel and the Asis on the aftermarket to get the Starforce version of Captain Marvel. The set sold during the last San Diego Comic Con only has the exclusive Maria Rambeau head, the character's torso being that of Tallie Lintra, a character seen in the LEGO Star Wars set. 75196 A-Wing vs. TIE Silencer (2018)

76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack

Today we are interested in the LEGO Marvel set 76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack (226 pieces - 24.99 €), which despite packaging that may suggest that the product is based on the cinematographic saga concluded with the film Avengers Endgame is actually based on the Marvel's Avengers (Square Enix) video game which was originally slated for release in May 2020 but was eventually pushed back to next September.

We know that the video game will feature the Avengers facing the AIM troops (Advanced Idea Mechanics) and the color of the combination of the agents delivered in the two sets already available confirms that it is the faction led by MODOK. So we should not look for a reference to the different films and be satisfied with what LEGO offers us while waiting to see if all this really has a credible link with the content of the video game.

In this box, the building machine is Black Panther's motorcycle. Why not, the design of the machine is original and we can imagine that the factories of Wakanda are capable of producing such machines with a futuristic look. Unfortunately, the thing is oversized and not at all minifig scale. It is enough to install Black Panther at the controls of the machine to understand that the figurine can not even grab the two handles of controls. And that's without counting on the totally crazy riding position created here which will bring back memories to those who already have the sets. 76126 Avengers Ultimate Quinjet ou 76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue...

As LEGO provides in this box the two silver accessory packs (ref. 6266155 and 6266977) already seen in other Marvel or DC Comics sets, the designer in charge of the file logically tried to use all the elements of each bag by integrating them more or less effectively on the fairing of the motorcycle and on the jetpack of the AIM agent

The two magnificent rims of the motorcycle are not exclusive to this box, they are also found in the sets 76143 Avengers Truck Takedown et 76148 Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock marketed this year and I think we will see them again quickly on a slew of more or less conventional vehicles in other ranges. The bike is easy to handle thanks to an internal structure based on Technic beams and there is no risk of losing too many parts apart from perhaps the two blue side extensions ending in the headlights, it is equipped with Stud Shooters adjustable and the playability is maximum.

76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack

76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack

The AIM agent's jetpack is rather successful, it is made up of two mobile and independent parts fixed in the back of the minifig. I would have appreciated that both Stud Shooters be orientable and do not remain in the axis of the support to retain the possibility of adjusting the shot without affecting the flight position.

Here we find all the elements of the two accessory packs that are not integrated into the bike and it is therefore a bit loaded. We feel we had to fit everything in and the designer did his best. Two cans of dangerous product (it's written on it) are provided and the AIM agent can take them away thanks to the anchor attached to the end of the chain, itself attached to the end of a grapple launcher which does not throw a grapple. The minifig / jetpack set is visually very consistent thanks to the orange colored elements placed on the jetpack fairing and the arms and head of the minifig.

76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack

76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack

The three minifigs delivered here are brand new. They are inspired by the Marvel's Avengers video game and therefore allow you to afford original variants of Thor and Black Panther. It should also be noted that none of the three minifigs delivered in this set has pad-printed legs. It is not always essential to overload a minifigure in various and varied details to make it believable, but when all the characters in a box are deadlocked, we can not help thinking that LEGO wanted to save some money. .

Thor's torso is a nice representation of the digital version of the character, except for the arms which should have been flesh colored. The Black Panther minifigure is relatively sober compared to previous versions of the character but the result seems very correct to me.

The AIM agent also benefits from a beautiful graphic work on the chest, too bad the legs are neutral. On the head, I have the impression that the details of the respirator duplicate the supplied accessory, but the character is not intended to walk without this accessory and his helmet anyway.

76142 Avengers Speeder Bike Attack

LEGO obviously plans to provide us with some additional AIM agents this summer via sets 76153 Helicarrier et 76166 Avengers Tower in addition to those delivered in this box and in the set 76143 Avengers Truck Takedown, so it's time to start building a team of villains.

25 € for a set with a (too) big motorcycle, a well-equipped villain and two super heroes, it's almost reasonable. There is a lot of fun, the construction phase is interesting especially in terms of the jetpack and the minifigs provided are all new and beautifully made. The reference to the video game which was to be released in May and which will not be available until September is in my opinion ultimately very incidental, the set is sufficient in itself.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at March 8, 2020 next at 23pm.

Update : The winner was drawn and notified by email, his nickname is indicated below. Without a response from him to my request for contact details within 5 days, a new winner will be drawn. Shipment of the batch as soon as the sanitary situation permits.

40370 40 Years of LEGO Trains

Today we are interested in the LEGO set 40370 40 Years of LEGO Trains, a box that will be offered at LEGO from March 1 to 15, 2020 from 99 € of purchase without restriction of range and which pays tribute to the set 7810 Push-Along Steam Engine marketed between 1980 and 1982.

The 7810 Push-Along Steam Engine set (97 pieces) was not the first to offer to assemble a locomotive or train, there were products on the railway theme at LEGO from 1966. The manufacturer however chose this reference, which could then be motorized in 4.5v or 12v, for the commemorative set that will be offered.

7810 Push-Along Steam Engine (Photo credit: Holger Matthes)

On this new "tribute" version of 187 pieces, we will notice that the logo of the railway company German Federal Railroad, present in the original set on the sides of the driver's cabin, disappears in favor of that of the fictitious company imagined by LEGO. At the time, a large sheet of stickers also made it possible to personalize the train according to your favorite company with stickers bearing the logos of the main European railway companies. For the rest, the reproduction of the locomotive is rather faithful to the reference model.

The instruction booklet does not contain any anecdote or specific reference to the fortieth anniversary celebrated through this box and that's a shame. I also note that the only two pad printed elements of the set are the torso and the driver's head. Everything else is based on stickers, even the decorative plate attached to the presentation support and the name of the set placed on the Tile black.

The presentation support is rather well done even if it lacks in my opinion a piece of rail to stage the locomotive in a more successful way. The machine fits in the spaces provided and the whole is of a foolproof stability. Like the model of set 7810, this locomotive can be motorized without too much effort by replacing the axle with a train motor Power Functions (ref. 88002) or the new element available since the launch of the ecosystem Powered Up (88011 ref). It will then be necessary to build a wagon to hide the Battery Pack or the Smart Hub.

40370 40 Years of LEGO Trains

40370 40 Years of LEGO Trains

The assembly process of this locomotive is as vintage as that of the original: big pieces to stack without particularly inventive techniques, a little rough shapes, we are well in the spirit of the LEGO products of the 80s and this tribute is satisfied simply to reproduce the original version with a few details.

The minifig delivered at the time in the 7810 Push-Along Steam Engine set was rather common, it was found in about fifteen boxes marketed during the 80s. The 2020 version takes the design of the original minifig with the same simple pad printing on the character's torso, the same smile on his face and the same red cap. For those who might be wondering: no risk of getting ripped off in the future by receiving a new version of the character instead of the old one, the vintage minifigure sells for less than a dollar on the secondary market. ..

40370 40 Years of LEGO Trains

For a product offered on condition of purchase, this small set with its box with vintage accents is a nice gift even with the relatively high amount of € 99 to spend to be offered. I would have appreciated some more information on the anniversary celebrated here in the instruction booklet, but it is already very correct as it is.

Note: We do as usual. Deadline set at March 5, 2020 next at 23pm.
