It is IGN which will make some disappointments this morning: The site announces indeed that LEGO will not produce sets based on the last opus of the trilogy The Dark Knight.
This article provides some details about the film that Warner Bros. promises for 2014, which must mix real actors and minifigs and which I was telling you about. in this article at the end of 2011. We learn that Batman and Superman will make an appearance in the film in question, that the title of the film will be LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, that the director Chris McKay (Robot Chicken) will, as had been announced, in command under the supervision of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) and that it is therefore the company Animal Logic (Happy Feet) which will be in charge of the visual effects of the film.
But the author of the article also claims to have contacted LEGO, without specifying who and at what level, to obtain confirmation or denial that sets based on the movie The Dark Knight Rises will be produced. And the ax has fallen: LEGO will not be producing sets based on the Nolan film universe.
I dare to hope that the author of the article did not reach out to the manufacturer's customer service department who is rarely aware of upcoming releases and just gives ready answers. We will no doubt have a reaction from Community Manager Kevin Hinkle or Jan Beyer in the coming days if the information is true (or false).
If the information was verified, I would obviously be very disappointed. The Dark Knight trilogy deserves a few sets, at least as much as the slew of cartoons or comics that LEGO is inspired by for some sets in its current Super Heroes line. Anyway, I think I'll wait a long time for my Tumbler in camouflage version ...
