Social media advertising: LEGO decides to take a "break"

LEGO today declares that it wants to thoroughly review its marketing policy when it comes to advertising via social networks and announces a pause of at least 30 days of the various ongoing campaigns. You should therefore no longer be entitled to the usual sponsored posts that clutter your LEGO fan facebook feed during the coming month.

In his press release, the brand chooses its words and carefully avoids making the connection with the boycott campaign entitled "Stop hate for profit"already followed by many brands and which directly targets facebook, but it is difficult not to see in this sudden awareness and this urgent desire for introspection a reaction to the campaign in question launched since June 17 by several NGOs and associations specializing in the defense of civil rights.

... We are committed to having a positive impact on children and the world they will inherit. That includes contributing to a positive, inclusive digital environment free from hate speech, discrimination and misinformation.

We will take immediate steps to carefully review the standards we apply to advertising and engagement on global social media platforms. While we do that, we will pause all paid advertising on global social media platforms for at least 30 days.

We will not change our media investment during this period and instead, invest in other channels.
We will work to collaborate with our partners and take whatever steps are necessary to create a more trusted digital world for people today and future generations. We are confident solutions exist but urgent action is needed ...

We note that LEGO ultimately prefers to act rather than staying on the side of those who decide nothing at the risk of being accused of complicity with the evil media peddling hatred and fake news. It's still better than nothing even though the above ad sounds a bit like an opportunistic and falsely individual awareness in my opinion, as usual in the service of children and the world we will leave to them.

To reassure bad tongues who would conclude a little too quickly that LEGO is taking advantage of the situation to save a few dollars, the manufacturer is quick to confirm that the budgets that were initially supposed to be allocated to these marketing campaigns on social networks will be redirected to d 'other channels.

The art of not getting too wet but of avoiding appearing to be petty by taking advantage of the current context: Many indeed criticize the various brands which have openly chosen to join the initiative "Stop hate for profit"to do so mainly to limit the post-COVID financial damage.

Note: Regardless of your position on the subject, please be polite and courteous in the comments.

New LEGO CITY 2020: the official visuals of three new boxes

We almost forgot that the LEGO CITY range is full of sets featuring police officers and thieves with for each new wave of boxes new variations of pursuits at the controls of various and varied machines.

Three new references planned for the second half of 2020 are now online at Brickshop with their visuals, their titles (probably provisional) and their public prices:

We find in these sets different characters seen in the animated series Lego city adventures : cops Duke DeTain, Sam Grizzled and Rooky Partnur and villains Clara The Criminal, Hacksaw Hank and Vito.

These three new boxes are currently not listed on the official online store, they should logically have been available as usual from June 1 but LEGO may have postponed their release date due to recent events.

Update : These three sets are now live on the official LEGO store (links above).

For those interested, here is the trailer for the second season of the animated series Lego city adventures :

LEGO Brick Sketches

Almost everything has already been said about the new range of LEGO portraits called Brick Sketches and inspired by the concept of Chris McVeigh who himself became an official designer.

Just know that the first four references of what could become a long-term range if successful are now online on the official store.

Almost unsurprisingly, we also know that it will cost € 19.99 per reference, whether the set contains 115 or 171 pieces. The price is unique, it's art. At this price, you can have fun for a few minutes and then proudly display the portrait obtained on the dresser in the living room or hang it on the wall using the clip provided.

I do not think of investing in these boxes, I am a little insensitive to the artistic side of the concept even if I readily admit that I found them. first creations of Chris McVeigh using this very original principle. From there to collecting them or filling my walls with them, there is a step that I will not take. Especially at this price.

Notice to complete collectors: Expect it to quickly become difficult to collect all the potential references, if the concept hangs on, LEGO will undoubtedly not hesitate to release us some more or less exclusive and difficult to find sets. As with the BrickHeadz.

Below, the direct link to each of the four references that will be available from July 15:

lego city national geographic explorers partnership

Today we are talking briefly about the partnership between LEGO and National Geographic which earned us a few boxes stamped with the logo of the National Geographic Society, an initiative that was to be unveiled a few weeks ago and whose official announcement had been postponed. In the meantime, everyone already suspected that there was a joint operation, it was enough to look at the packaging of the new LEGO CITY and Friends to see it.

That being said, LEGO is therefore focusing this summer on exploring the seabed and protecting animals with nine boxes, four of which are in the CITY range and five other references in the Friends range. Make no mistake, the manufacturer will not donate part of the profit made on the sale of these sets but still undertakes to pay a contribution, the total amount of which has not been communicated, to the associative branch of the group. National Society to contribute to its activities of exploration and conservation of animal species.

In short, it's a nice partnership that mainly benefits the two brands while waiting to see the effects on our seabed and on the most endangered species on the planet. The initiative may also add a little more educational context than usual to children's toys and then it will be up to parents to do their work. They will eventually be able to rely on the dedicated platform which will be online from July 1st. at this address, with educational content and portraits of actors who act, sometimes in a surprising or creative way, for the protection of the planet and its animals.

While waiting to be able to access these contents, we will have to be content with the slew of animals available in the different sets in the colors of this partnership: stingray, hammerhead shark, abyssal monkfish, tiger, elephant, pandas or sloths.

Below is the list of the four boxes of the CITY range which should in principle be used to educate the youngest about underwater exploration, followed by the list of the five boxes of the Friends range which feature the usual girlfriends at the service the protection of different species of animals:

LEGO also provides two short videos to promote this partnership, one on the theme of underwater exploration and the other focused on the conservation of endangered species. We know at least that the money intended to save the world did not go into the direction and the special effects:
