Here we are, the project The Winchester (Shaun of the Dead) initiated by yatkuu has reached 10.000 supporters. The support of Simon Pegg (Shaun in the film) on Twitter or during his visit to the Conan O'Brien Show is undoubtedly for something.
But a big problem now arises that the project must be examined by LEGO in order to assess the possibility of marketing a set based on the work of yatkuu: How LEGO is going to be able to respond to the enthusiasm of the fans of this film-based MOC , certainly humorous, but which contains violence, gore, living dead, etc ....
LEGO already bordered on this in its first comment on Cuusoo: This is indeed a comedy and LEGO has already produced sets about universes with living dead, violence, fighting, etc ... and after the Lord of the Rings lineup and its orcs, there will be no valid excuse to deny this project for reasons related to the so-called politics moral from LEGO ....
After that, we can also wonder if this type of set will meet with sufficient commercial success to justify going into production. Supporting a project with one click and following the buzz is one thing, paying € 200 or € 300 is another. Shaun of the Dead, released in 2004, isn't exactly the movie that is creating the buzz right now ... and the people who voted to support the project aren't necessarily all AFOLs.
I look forward to the result of the LEGO Review Stage which should last several weeks ... I have a small idea of the result ...
SPARKART !, Known and recognized MOCeur, launches a CUUSOO project to say the least original: It offers a series of astromech droids to assemble yourself according to the tastes (and colors!) of each. The starting MOC used as a basis for this project is excellent and we note the use of the dome of the astromech droid from the UCS set 10215 Obi Wan's Jedi Starfighter released in 2010. Sparkart proposes to produce this 4x4 dome in different colors that would create a whole collection of different droids.
The initiative is interesting and well deserves a little click of support on BEWARE. Below is a visual that allows you to better understand the scale of these astromech droids.
Info just fell officially: the LEGO® CUUSOO team has just announced that the Minecraft project which obtained in 48 hours the 10.000 supporters necessary for moving to the next step has just been validated. The phase of review is therefore finished and at LEGO we are working on the creation of a set that will be marketed. No date has yet been communicated, but this phase should last several months.
For all intents and purposes, I would like to point out that the visual illustrating this post is that of the Minecraft project initiated by Mojang and that this is not the set that will be marketed soon.
We believed that we had reached the peak of the absurd with the hundreds of ridiculous projects posted on Cuusoo ... But nay, LEGO has just found the ultimate solution to give some seriousness to all this: Cuusoo will now be banned to children !!! Please note, not some children, but ALL children under 18 will no longer be welcome to present their ideas.
As of January 12, you must be at least 18 years old to be able to present a project, and 13 years old to be able to register and support projects, without being able to create one.
The project turning to the farce, LEGO had to react to maintain a little credibility to the whole. Between the MOCs pumped onto flickr or MOCpages and presented as new projects, petitions for the return of the Bionicle range, personal photos or settling of scores between TFOLs, Cuusoo had become a sort of uncontrollable arena.
From now on, he will have to be of age to be able to post a photo of his kids, to come and ask for a UCS from the Black Pearl or a license from The Simpsons .... I do not know if we will gain by the change ....
To learn more, read this declaration from the LEGO Cuusoo team and their reaction to the project No to 18+! created by users (minors) unhappy with this ad, laughter ...
A little word about a Cuusoo project that I'm discovering (thank you in Ezéchielle) and which appeals to me on several points:
1. The chosen ship would really deserve to see the light of day as a set, in the spirit of the 10198 Tantive IV or 7964 Republic Frigate. After all, this is one of General Grievous' ships during the Clone Wars, which is entitled to beautiful scenes in theEpisode III: Revenge of the Sith, where it ends up cut in half and Anakin crash-lands one half on Coruscant.
2. LDiEgo has worked well on its subject, it intelligently details its project and argues in favor of its virtual MOC and its possible conversion into a set System. Its playset would allow several scenes from the film to be reproduced, and the list of minifigs to include is carefully determined.
3. The whole is realistic and although LDiEgo sees many additional small ships and no less than 18 minifigs, LEGO has already released this type of well loaded playset (10188 Death Star) which, despite a high price, sold well and still sells very well on the second-hand market.
So if you have five minutes to spare, go to Cuusoo and support this initiative which could allow a nice virtual MOC to emerge, even if the milestone of 10.000 supporters should be difficult to achieve.
To see this MOC in close-up, go to LDiEgo's Brickshelf gallery.
