I am no tree! I am an Ent ... by Icare

It is at the turn of a topic on Brickpirate that I put my hand on a MOC posted in October by Icare.

This is a Ent, from Old English which means Giant, a forest spirit with the appearance of a tree. The best known of them in the LOTR universe is without a doubt Treebeard (Fangorn).

Icare carried out this MOC in January 2011 as part of a competition on Classic Castle. However, he never really finished it on the legs. And finally it's just as well like that ...

The realization is of quality: The face is well rendered, the foliage bushy and well dispersed and when one observes this MOC with a little distance, the illusion is perfect, Treebeard takes shape before our eyes.

So take some of your time, since nothing concrete is announced on the front of the license The Hobbit at LEGO, and go to the topic dedicated to this MOC on Brickpirate or the MOCpages of Icarus.

Vivid imaginations

Let's be honest, the LEGO The Hobbit license is looking pretty bad ...

After The Bridge Direct for the USA and Asia, it is Vivid imaginations, an English toy maker who licensed The Hobbit for Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

The manufacturer will offer plush toys of the characters from the film, board games and mini figures. The Bridge Direct will offer Action Figures, Adventure Packs, Beast Packs and detailed collectible figurines. We can also afford role-playing accessories such as swords, battle axes, etc ...

Vivid has produced toys under the LOTR license in the past and therefore knows the industry well. The product lines of the two manufacturers will be unveiled to industry professionals within a few weeks, probably at one of the first Toy Fair in February 2012.

Still no trace of LEGO in the equation, and if we admit that the partnerships are signed and announced now for the end of 2012, we can start to worry.

But let's not forget that LEGO has learned to keep its secrets before revealing them at the most opportune moment. The LEGO Super Heroes range is a fine example of controlled communication. Nothing concrete had filtered before the San Diego Comic Con in July 2011 ...

Queer Lodgings by Blake's Baericks

Another quality MOC by Blake's Baericks. The scene reproduced is where Bilbo meets the hermit Beorn, a lonely guy who has the power to change into a bear. Note that the Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt will play Beorn in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of the book Bilbo The Hobbit.

For this MOC it is Hagrid, his double, who takes over the role ....

We will appreciate the exceptional level of detail of this realization with in particular the tree trunk, the honeycomb and the luxuriant vegetation.

You can find more views, including many close-ups, of this MOC at the Brickshelf gallery or the MOCpages page by Blake's Baericks.

Riddles in the Dark by Blake's Baericks

A successful scene, which suffers, however, from some unfortunate finishing details like this piece of a different color on the floor in Old Dark Gray or the choice of Gollum's body which I find moderately similar.

The rock is well reproduced with a construction that leaves room for visible studs.

The presentation base is however successful and Bilbo is well represented. The general atmosphere of the scene is respected.

The Hobbit Hole by Taz-Maniac

A nice creation here with this view of Hobbiton. The vegetation is dense enough to be believable, and the house is ingeniously designed.

The rendering of the front door is excellent and the integration of the house into the surrounding vegetation is successful. The presentation stand is also very well designed.
