THE LEGO Movie

We are talking about the next brick-based film soberly titled The LEGO Movie and whose release is announced for February 2014, with a brickfilms competition which will allow the lucky winner to see his work included IN the film.

This is a unique opportunity for a brickfilm director to see his work integrated into this film directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller with the voices of Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Will Arnett.

The winner will also be offered an all-expenses-paid trip to visit Warner Studios in Los Angeles, meet the directors of the film and, best of all, they will be offered the full line of LEGO products based on the film, autographed by the designers. There will therefore be one or more sets inspired by this film.

For all the details on the competition rules, it's over there. In summary, you must be at least 16 years old, create a 15/30 seconds video, respect the imposed theme, and upload the video to YouTube before May 6, 2013.

I hope that all the young directors of brickfilms, whose stage name begins or ends moreover always pompously with "Productions", will have understood the unique opportunity offered to them to promote their art elsewhere than on their YouTube channel.

Bilbo Exclusive Minifig - The Hobbit

Close-up of Bilbo's exclusive minifigure sold with the special Blu-ray edition of the film on offer by the US Target brand. No information for the moment on the possible marketing of this pack including the minifigure in Europe.

A minifigure which should also remain exclusive, since it seems to reproduce the outfit worn by Bilbo in a scene cut from the first opus of The Hobbit trilogy. It is therefore unlikely that it will be available later in a set from the LEGO The Hobbit range.

We will have to keep an eye on the Warner Bros website which offers some collector versions of the film for pre-order. Maybe this edition will be offered later, you never know ...

custom-minifigs-lego-eclipsegrafx

I received the three minifigs offered by eclipseGRAFX and sold on minifigures.co.uk : Cyclops, Storm and Rogue. These three minifigs are also marketed under different names (Lazer Beam, Tempest and Emerald) to cope with copyright issues ...

In short, overall, the quality is there. The printing technique is the same as that used by Christo: The pad-printing or Pad printing.

We therefore find the same qualities as on the Christo minifigs: 360 ° printing, finesse of the line, perfect setting of the different layers and alignment of the edges. Cyclops and Snape are successful. Storm is a little less so for my taste. The lightning around the eyes is too much, although I understand the intention. Note that these are interpretations of the versions comic characters, not the movies.

I paid a total of £ 72 (€ 84) including postage for the three minifigs. It is very expensive in absolute terms for unofficial minifigs, but it is almost correct considering the level of finish of these minifigs.

These three minifigs are the first in a new series launched by eclipseGRAFX. The technical know-how is there, it remains to be seen what direction this manufacturer of custom minifigs will take in terms of design.

You can buy these minifigs at minifigures.co.uk (UK) or on lapetitbrique.com (FR).

Chris Hemsworth - Thor Minifig

What's cooler than a LEGO minifig? A LEGO minifig signed by the character it represents ...

Doctor Beef was able to obtain an autograph from Chris Hemsworth, who he met by chance at the exit of a restaurant, on the cape of Thor's minifig.

To see other photos, it's on Doctor Beef's flickr gallery that it happens.
