75257 Millennium Falcon

Time to take a quick look at the LEGO Star Wars set 75257 Millennium Falcon (1353 pieces - 159.99 €) with a new interpretation of the most emblematic spaceship of the Star Wars saga which is also a chestnut tree from the LEGO range.

With each new version, its improvements, its modifications, its qualities and its defects. There is always a Millennium Falcon in the LEGO catalog and it is ultimately the one to buy to have fun or to please a young fan who has not known the previous versions: while the sets removed from the spokes are selling too expensive in the aftermarket, the current version is still available on sale somewhere.

This 2019 version, based on the film The Rise of Skywalker, uses the usual recipe: A (very) compact vessel, with an acceptable exterior appearance, a basic but sufficient interior and maximum playability allowed by the various mobile panels of the cabin.

The ship's frame here is made up of Technic elements that give it all the rigidity it needs to withstand the onslaught of young fans. A few plates to hide the bars and we then assemble the different spaces that serve as a fun base for this playset. The interior is a little empty, but we will console ourselves by telling ourselves that there is room to stage the various characters provided.

75257 Millennium Falcon

The overall look of the ship is good, this model is not a 5000 piece UCS and compromises in ship shape are inevitable. Seen from afar, this Millennium Falcon almost looks great. Up close, it is immediately less obvious with a lot of rough angles and holes in the cabin.

Like on the ship in the set 75105 Millennium FalconTwo Spring-Shooters are integrated into the mandibles of the vessel and you just need to slide your finger into the openings to trigger the shot.

The large sheet of stickers provided will not surprise anyone but it has a rather annoying flaw: most of the round stickers provided are not correctly centered and they will have to be aligned taking into account only their final positioning to compensate.

The rear of the ship is rather successful with the integration of transparent blue parts on a white background. This solution for reproducing the propulsion system is undoubtedly the best possible without having to resort to additional lighting. The hinges retaining the upper panels are really very apparent here, but we will do with it.

Under the ship, it is minimum service with four fixed and fairly basic landing gears and a set of laser cannons based on ski poles plugged into cones that come off easily and that you must avoid losing.

75257 Millennium Falcon

The pizza slice opening system seen in the set 75105 Millennium Falcon marketed in 2015 goes by the wayside with here larger portions of the cabin which can be opened to allow access to the various playable spaces. These different elements can obviously be unclipped to completely discover the interior of the vessel and have fun without being hampered by the protruding plates.

Dejarik's table pad printed on a black shield is identical to the one seen in the set 75212 Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (2018) and the hyperdrive present in this new version is more basic than that of the set 75105 Millennium Falcon. It comes down here to a few pieces on which we stick a sticker.

The cockpit is still so cramped, impossible to accommodate more than three characters, DO included. The canopy and the front face are nicely pad printed, in the right shade, but the whole obtained by assembling the two half-cones is only held by the two tenons visible above the occupants' heads. This is in my opinion a bit tight for a playset. It is also around the cockpit that we find the most approximate finishes of this model with a very unsightly fixing clip for the upper panel of the cabin which remains far too visible.

75257 Millennium Falcon

The endowment in minifigs is correct here even if many collectors will be disappointed to obtain new copies of the minifigs of C3-PO, R2-D2 and Chewbacca already delivered identically in many boxes. They will console themselves with the minifigs of Lando Calrissian, Finn and Boolio.

The star of the set is obviously Lando Calrissian with a very successful minifigure which honors the character played on the screen by Billy Dee Williams but which remains consistent with the younger version of Donald Glover. the hairstyle used here is perhaps a little too "disco" but the details of the face are enough to make the whole sufficiently believable in my eyes. The minifigure comes with two elements that make up Lando's cape, I wasn't asking for so much and would gladly have done without the upper part.

Finn's minifigure is not 100% new, the character's head delivered here is identical to the one seen in the set 75176 Resistance Transport Pod (2017). I'm not sure that the minifigure deserved to receive the hair of young Lando or Nakia (Black Panther) but we will do with it.

We do not know much about Boolio, the alien provided here in a very successful outfit and faithful to what we have seen for the moment that of the character of the film. The character's head is also very convincing with a mix of hard plastic and softer material for the horns and a two-color injection.

75257 Millennium Falcon

In short, if you don't have a Millennium Falcon version System, it is obviously this one that you have to buy right now, especially since the box is already on sale with a reduction of 32% on its usual retail price: 109.00 € at Amazon instead of 159.99 € on the official LEGO store as of this writing.

The youngest will find what they are looking for with a solid and playful playset and collectors will add a new version of the Millennium Falcon to their probably already crowded shelves and some pretty new minifigs in their Ribba frames. There is something for everyone and Chewbacca, C3-PO and R2-D2 will end up in the usual drawer of invasive "duplicates".

LEGO Batman 76139 1989 Batmobile

As promised, we take a quick look at the news LEGO Batmobile from the set 76139 which pays homage to the vehicle seen in the Tim Burton film released in theaters in 1989. The official product announcement has just taken place, so you have been able to discover this new product from all angles and get your first opinion. As usual, therefore, I am content to give you some personal thoughts here and to illustrate everything with many photos of the different stages of construction. The rest will be up to you.

As much to tell you right away, I am conquered by this set. The 1989 Batmobile is for me the ultimate Batmobile, the one that best embodies the powerful, organically shaped vehicle piloted by the vigilante of Gotham City. The 1989 film then developed a much more serious and dark atmosphere than that of the wacky TV series broadcast so far and this vision of the Batmobile looking like a classic American vehicle boosted with elements of fighter aircraft had made me strong. impression.

3.50 kg of bricks divided into 24 bags, for 24 construction stages and here we find the techniques often used for vehicles in the LEGO Creator Expert range, with an internal structure based on Technic parts on which different sub-assemblies are placed made up of classic pieces.

LEGO Batman 76139 1989 Batmobile

If you regularly assemble products from this range, you will be in familiar territory here and you will discover in passing the ingenious solutions implemented to reproduce the curves of the vehicle as faithfully as possible. The final model of over 60cm long and 22cm wide is impressive. The overall look of the vehicle is consistent with the version seen on the screen, with some compromises on angles and other roundings on which I am happy to indulge here.

The whole remains fragile in places, but the vehicle is generally manageable without breaking everything. The presence of the supplied rotating support allows you to admire the Batmobile from all angles without having to grab it by the sides and risk picking up a few parts. The location of the chassis to be aligned with the protuberances of the support is materialized by blue Technic parts, this is clever and it avoids looking for the vehicle's point of balance.

As usual, the inventory is rich in colorful pieces that find their place in the heart of the Batmobile. This mix of colors is very useful for better decoding the instructions which quickly become more difficult to visualize as you move through the ranges of the booklet. The body of the Batmobile being black, the red border around the parts to be added at each stage is very useful here.

LEGO Batman 76139 1989 Batmobile

No barrels or other parts too diverted from their usual use here and in my opinion so much the better. The designer has also worked to limit the use of very large parts and this is a good thing, both for the overall rendering of the model and for the construction process. The top-of-the-range model aspect is only reinforced, as is the pleasure of reproducing the curves of the vehicle with the help of carefully placed small parts. I'm not always a fan of the exposed studs on the LEGO models for the exhibition, but for once I find the balance between smooth surfaces and visible stud areas here to be quite consistent.

If the designer was able to show incredible creativity in the reproduction of the body of this Batmobile, he did not forget to add some features that add character to the product.

The steering of the front wheels is functional, the two on-board machine guns are deployed by turning the engine placed at the rear and the canopy of the cockpit slides forward to reveal the spacious interior. The two grapples placed on the sides of the vehicle which allow in the film to take very tight turns are fixed, they are not ejectable.

These different functions may seem anecdotal to some collectors who will be content to exhibit this Batmobile, but they at least have the merit of being present and making the difference with a "real" static model. Those who saw the film at the time will remember being impressed by the process of opening the canopy and the system of deploying the two machine guns. Finding these two flagship features of the 1989 Batmobile here is therefore really appreciable.

Two somewhat embarrassing details stand out as you move forward in the construction of the model: many parts are more or less scratched and on a black set, it shows. You should not hesitate to contact the brand's customer service to obtain the replacement of these excessively scratched or damaged parts which are detrimental to the mock-up appearance of the product.

On the canopy of the cockpit, the body incorporates a matt plate while the rest of the elements used for the exterior cladding of the upper face of the vehicle are rather shiny. As a bonus, the unsightly injection point placed in the center of this room is really too visible for my taste.

The many stickers provided are mainly used on interior elements of the vehicle such as the cockpit or the headlights, which they provide opacity. Without counting the big sticker to stick on the identification plate fixed to the presentation support, there are hardly any more than the two stickers to put on the rear wings and those which dress the sides of the retractable machine guns which remain visible. The wheel covers with the logo are pad printed, as is the canopy.

LEGO Batman 76139 1989 Batmobile

This box also allows you to obtain three minifigs: Batman (Michael Keaton), The Joker (Jack Nicholson) and Vicky Vale (Kim Basinger), the journalist and fiancee of Bruce Wayne in the 1989 film. The three characters enjoy a small display in the form of a roof cornice dressed with two gargoyles seen in many scenes of the film.

Vicky Vale's outfit is simple but consistent with that worn on screen by Kim Basinger in some scenes, except perhaps for the legs which should be flesh-colored at least from the knees to better reproduce the skirt effect of the costume from the movie. The character's face is not new, it is also that of Black Widow, Jyn Erso, Mera or Padme in some sets.

The Joker minifig is 100% new and perfectly reproduces the version of the character played by Jack Nicholson. The continuity of the sides of the coat to the legs is ensured, too bad the pattern of the pants does not go down a little lower.

If LEGO had decided to only provide Batman in this box, I would have been satisfied. The minifigure looks gorgeous with a one-piece mask / cloak set that perfectly mimics Michael Keaton's outfit in the movie. The drape effect of the cloak is very interesting here and the accessory almost ridicules the usual scraps of fabric provided by LEGO. The pad printing of the minifig is not to be outdone and the conversion to minifig format of this iconic outfit is in my opinion very successful.

LEGO Batman 76139 1989 Batmobile

In short, you will understand that I am very enthusiastic about this box, to the point of being more indulgent than usual on a few points. As far as I'm concerned, it's a big yes and a purchase as soon as the product goes on sale on November 29th.

I know many fans will have to think twice before spending the £ 250 demanded by LEGO on this premium product, but I think it would be a shame to miss out on what I already consider the set of year 2019.

LEGO Creator 40434 Reindeer

This is the bag currently offered at LEGO from 35 € of purchase: the LEGO Creator polybag 40434 Reindeer which is in fact a reissue of the bag bearing the reference 30474 produced in 2016.

No exclusive minifig or license here, with the 77 parts provided we just assemble a reindeer accompanied by two small gifts. The animal in the eyes of Mixel can end up in a festive diorama or on the branches of the tree.

It's cute, it's quickly assembled and it can possibly occupy the youngest for a few minutes. Difficult to make this reindeer take original poses, the legs only open outwards.

LEGO Creator 40434 Reindeer

You still have to spend 35 € to be offered this unpretentious polybag, and I remain convinced that this type of bag should be included in all orders with no minimum purchase. After all, if we agree to order directly from LEGO and pay a high price for boxes that can be found much cheaper elsewhere, LEGO should make a more significant effort on its side.

That being said, this is arguably not the worst polybag in the history of LEGO promotions and a product on offer is still good to take. This type of bag is also an interesting highlight of the possibilities offered by the Creator 3-in-1 range, often "forgotten" by fans of various and varied licenses but which regularly offers rather successful animals or creatures.

LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure

It is the derivative of the moment and as LEGO sent me a copy, I suggest you give you some very personal thoughts on the "set" LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure (30 pieces - 119.99 €). Everything has already been said or seen about this product, so there is little to do with an encyclopedic "review".

As you know from the official announcement of the product, LEGO pays tribute here to the know-how of the brand's founder, Ole Kirk Kristiansen, who was a carpenter by trade before becoming the emperor of plastic toys. The product therefore comes down to an oak wood reproduction of the LEGO minifig, a bag of 29 pieces to put some accessories to build in his hands and a pretty box.

When unpacking, the packaging has its small effect: The minifig is carefully stored in its colored insert and you must be careful not to try to dislodge it without having first removed the transparent elastic that holds it in place at the level of the arms. For a 20cm tall wooden minifig I would have expected something heavier but it only weighs 340 grams.

Useful clarification: the box is not sealed, so it can be opened and closed without damaging the collector's packaging.

Good news, the texts of the small booklet that accompanies the figurine are in English and French. There you will find some information about the LEGO company, its first wooden toys, some facts on minifigs and several construction ideas making good use of the inventory provided in the bag of parts that accompanies the figure. The good idea would have been to provide a standard brick but made of wood in this bag ...

LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure

I am not a cabinetmaker nor a specialist in wood in all its forms, but it seems to me that the finish of the whole is very correct. The rounds are perfect, the angles are softened where they are also on the plastic minifigures and there is little more than the inner outline of the "fake" holes on the back of the legs which seems a little too raw to me.

Under the feet of the figurine we learn that this product is made in Vietnam with wood from forests managed in a "sustainable" way. I am well aware that Asia manufactures the majority of the products we consume today but in this specific case I expected that this luxury product presented as a limited edition and sold at an indecent price would indeed be made in Denmark. I am probably a little too naive.

Small disappointment by noting that the figurine remains desperately still. The arms, the legs and the head are glued to the torso and the possibilities of staging are in fact a little limited. One could also discuss LEGO's bias regarding the use of plastic hands instead of wooden elements. According to the manufacturer, this choice was necessary for reasons of strength of the thinnest parts of the hands and resistance of the wrists to rotation. Despite everything, I am not convinced by this mixture of materials, I would have preferred a figurine entirely made of wood, even with a warning stating that it is only intended for exhibition.

LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure

We all know that most of those who will spend $ 120 to treat themselves to this decorative item will not risk a lot of customization of the thing even if LEGO insists that it is up to everyone to make the character their own. daubing it with paint or dressing it in tailor-made clothes and accessories.

So I think that the majority of customers will not go beyond the stage of opening the bag of parts provided which allows to assemble some accessories to put in the hands of the character. As far as I'm concerned, I find that the figurine is sufficient on its own and that it doesn't really need additional plastic elements to be added to it in the hands.

In short, if the idea of a wooden minifigure is not really innovative, many artists and other wood specialists have already tried it with more or less success, the "official" version of the product is mine. a little disappointing opinion by its lack of joints.

LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure

For those who would be tempted to cry conspiracy by invoking the fact that LEGO did not invent anything here, I would like to remind you that the minifig is a copyrighted product and that all those who have so far produced wooden versions of it in series to make a small ticket have blithely broken the most basic rules of intellectual property. It is legally and morally legitimate that LEGO is aware of these productions and finally decides to invest in a market that can prove to be juicy. Let's not reverse the roles.

In short, this wooden minifig sold in its pretty box is in my opinion a very important product for exposure to the WAF (female acceptance factor) but a little too expensive to make it really essential. It is therefore up to everyone to see if their interior (or their budget) will accommodate this luxury derivative.

As I said during the announcement, if you have people around you who are wondering what to get for Christmas, here is a product that will replace the pair of socks. The Simpsons usual. Recommend that they get together to gather the necessary budget to acquire this product and voila.

75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter

Today we take a quick look at the LEGO Star Wars set 75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter (578 pieces - 69.99 €), a box inspired by the film The Rise of Skywalker and marketed since October 4. As usual, we will remain very careful about the fidelity of the content of the set with what we will see on the screen next December and we will be content to take this product for what it is: yet another performance. Y-Wing in LEGO sauce accompanied by some characters.

There are also no more versions of the Y-Wing at LEGO. "Classic" versions, model based on the animated series The Clone Wars, UCS, Microfighters, I believe that we have covered the subject widely in 20 years and it is always appreciable to have the right to a little originality even if the starting point remains similar.

The advantage of this new version is to move away from the color scheme usually used for this ship. So we find ourselves here with a red and white livery which will justify the purchase of this box without telling ourselves that it is yet a classic Y-Wing, whose design has been redesigned to better meet the requirements of today's fans, which we buy.

75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter

Some pieces Technic for the main frame, a cockpit which gradually takes shape according to the different stickers to stick on the cabin, a pad-printed canopy which allows you to refine everything and we are there. There is nothing very complicated to assemble here and the youngest should find their way around.

It will be a little less obvious when it will be necessary to affix the different stickers that give the ship a little personality. These are big stickers that must be carefully aligned so as not to mess up the look of the model. And this is where we see that LEGO definitely has a problem with white. Off-white, creamy white or immaculate white, all the colors pass through and the result is not very successful. The pieces are not really white, the stickers are. The difference in color is clearly visible and it is disappointing.

If the canopy of the vessel is not unique, the pad printing of the part is however specific to this model. I don't know if LEGO intended to match the color with the rest of the front end of the ship, yet that's what the official retouched visuals displayed on the manufacturer's store suggest, but it failed.

75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter

The two reactors are also quickly assembled with a few logically repetitive steps as desired. The whole is rather solid and easy to handle, even if the "branches" of the reactors will sometimes tend to unclip unexpectedly. The end result is visually very correct with an appreciable attention to detail for a model of this scale.

A satisfying detail: The presence of three landing gears, admittedly basic but foldable to retract them during the flight phase, which give the ship a little allure when it is placed on the corner of a shelf.

75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter

Question playability, there is something to have a little fun with two Spring-Shooters rather well integrated which with a simple pressure on the tail of the missile ejects their projectile. In the center of the ship, there is a bomb bay that can store three ammunition that will then have to be released using the dial placed at the back. The integration of the storage mechanism is successful and the wheel does not disfigure the whole.

The cockpit is a little cramped, you have to orient Zorii Bliss' helmet so that the rear protuberance of the accessory goes under the planned release. The astromech droid finds its place in the usual location, as usual in a position that is not the one seen on this type of ship but we will do with it.

75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter

The minifig endowment is rather interesting here with a Snowtrooper, Zorii Bliss, Poe Dameron, an astromech droid and the small DO droid. Unsurprisingly, the Snowtrooper reuses elements already seen in other boxes since 2015 including the Lego Star Wars 2017 Advent Calendar.

Zorii Bliss is a character that we don't know much about yet, but at least we know it's actress Keri Russell (Elizabeth Jennings in the series The Americans) which is hidden under the costume. If the character does not take off his helmet throughout the film, the neutral head is justified. Otherwise, it's a shame. LEGO is doing quite well with the plastic version of the helmet worn by the character in the film. It's bulky, but it's consistent with what we've seen so far on the various promotional visuals provided by Disney.

Poe Dameron is delivered here in an all-new outfit, seen in the movie trailer, with an adventurer shirt and bandana around his neck. The character's head is not new, it is the one seen so far in a good half-dozen sets. Logically, Oscar Isaac hasn't aged much since The Force Awakens.

Regarding the two droids provided, I will settle for two remarks: I don't know what I really expected regarding DO, but I am a little disappointed with the Kinder figure delivered here even if it seems difficult to do otherwise. . The astromech droid seems almost successful, except that on closer inspection we see that LEGO is trying to solve the problem of pad printing a white area on a darker background by applying two coats. It failed, still it would be necessary to align the two layers of white correctly.

75249 Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter

Overall, I am seduced by this box which offers an original, detailed and playable interpretation of the Y-Wing. I'm also a little disappointed with the usual technical flaws that LEGO still doesn't go out of its way to correct to deliver a truly flawless high-end toy. This set of less than 600 pieces is still sold € 69.99, at this price and coming from a manufacturer whose job it is, I think I have the right to be demanding. Fortunately, it is already possible to pay for this box a little cheaper than its public price to pass the pill.
