75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder

Today we quickly tour the LEGO Star Wars set 75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder (236 pieces - € 29.99), one of those multiple reinterpretations of machines, vehicles or ships from the Star Wars universe that allows newcomers to the LEGO hobby to get an affordable version of the machine without having to go through the secondary market.

The latest version of the Landspeeder X-34 was from 2017 with the set 75173 Luke's Landspeeder. For 29.99 €, we then obtained a completely acceptable version of the machine and 4 characters. This year, we have to settle for the same price of 3 minifigs and a small additional construction without much interest.

As with each new version of a product that is permanently maintained in the LEGO catalog, the designer has endeavored here to offer us a revised version of the Landspeeder. The machine remains very close to the 2017 version but it benefits from a few adjustments which seem to me to be significant in terms of fixing the engines or finishing the front, even if we have to rely on a few stickers here. .

75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder

75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder

Some perfectionists will regret the gap between the edge of the front of the machine and the half-moon that forms the hood. You can see it as a stylistic effect or the nonchalance of a designer in a hurry to move on.

Again, the Landspeeder does not really float above the ground. The few transparent parts placed under the machine allow it to slide on all types of surfaces, but when it comes to exposing the whole it will be necessary to find a solution allowing to give a little height to the vehicle. Too bad that LEGO does not provide us with a transparent central support, two pieces would be enough.

No innovation in the windshield, which is identical to the one already used on the 2010 version, and it would be time for LEGO to offer us a more realistic half-bubble. On the other hand, I welcome the effort on the seats, the backs of which are here much more convincing than on the previous version.

As for the minifigs delivered in this small box, nothing transcendent for an informed collector: the three characters are versions already available in other boxes.

The pad printing of the torso and legs of the minifigure of Luke Skywalker is identical to that seen in the sets 75159 Death Star (2016) 75173 Luker's Landspeeder (2017) 75220 Sandcrawler (2018) 75229 Death Star Escape or even 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut (2020). I'm not a fan of the new poncho delivered here, although I welcome the effort to provide us with this item. I find the accessory really too basic and poorly cut, knowing that on screen it also covers the arms of the character.

C3-PO and the Jawa are also regulars in the LEGO Star Wars range and no effort has been made in this box to try to bait us with at least one exclusive torso.

There are about ten stickers to stick on the model and, better, I find them very appropriate, especially with regard to the engines. I also prefer the solution implemented here on the side of the vehicle to the one based on flexible tubes used on the machine in the set. 75173 Luker's Landspeeder and on that of the set 75052 Mos Eisley Winery (2014)

75271 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder

In short, the Landspeeder is a chestnut tree from the LEGO Star Wars range and in my opinion it is always a good idea to acquire the most recent model for those who do not already have their copy.

This new version does not revolutionize the theme and does not correct all the faults of the multiple versions already marketed so far, but it will do the trick by combining it with the elements of the set. 75270 Obi-Wan's Hut also marketed for a few days.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 15th January 2020 next at 23pm.

40383 Wedding Bride & 40384 Wedding Groom

Today we quickly tour the LEGO Brickheadz sets 40383 Wedding Bride (306 pieces - 12.99 €) & 40384 Wedding Groom (255 pieces - € 12.99), two sets based on the same principle as the set 41597 GB Brick Me marketed in 2018 which already made it possible to customize a figurine.

Admitting that we are a fan of the format of these cubic figurines, I must admit that it is rather well done. In each box, you will find something to assemble several versions of the groom and the bride, so that the two characters look more or less like their "human" versions.

You have three skin tones, three heads of hair, two suits, a hat and a pair of glasses for the groom. Same assortment for the bride, without the hat or the costume variants. The only two pad-printed pieces in these boxes are the groom's gray jacket to integrate into the suit of your choice and the lace of the bride's dress on a white background. Even though I've put a mustache on the versions I'm showing you here, you can put a face together without this element for the groom.

40383 Wedding Bride & 40384 Wedding Groom

The instruction booklets are well designed with clear directions on what to assemble or replace based on the character's skin or hair color and what accessories will come to equip the figure. It is not possible to replace the skin or hair without disassembling some of the sub-assemblies of the previous figure, the inventory is quite extensive but not to the point of allowing instant modification of each figure.

It is also possible to customize the groom's buttonhole, which has the choice of a black or dark blue suit, and to accessorize the bride's dress by changing the decorations of the dress, the veil and the bouquet.

40383 Wedding Bride & 40384 Wedding Groom

The body of the figurines is identical to that of most of the products in the range with a dressing that takes place around the guts and the brains of the characters. Too bad the bases provided are not white to better integrate with the whipped cream of the mounted piece.

You have the right to lose or forget alliances, LEGO provides three per box.

A note on the glasses: I know that we are here in a theme where almost everything is square and the glasses provided are no exception to the rule. Despite everything, I remain convinced that a pair of round glasses would make it possible to offer a less "aggressive" possibility of customization than the version delivered here, the principle of these boxes being to allow to stick as close as possible to the real version of the people reproduced. .

40383 Wedding Bride & 40384 Wedding Groom

The two figures are sold separately, so you can also combine two bride and groom or two brides, it's up to you. You still have to agree to spend € 25.98 to afford two minifigures to plant at the top of the mounted piece, but when you love LEGOs, you don't count for a long time.

In short, we are probably more here in the "lifestyle" product than in the collectible figurine and it will still be necessary to make sure that your partner accepts to see these two cubic characters enthroned at the top of the cake which cost you an arm.

Nothing is less certain, the Brickheadz figures are already not unanimous among fans of LEGO and probably even less among those who do not necessarily want to replace the usual small characters by these piles of bricks a little coarse. It would be a shame to argue over that on your wedding day.

Note: The two sets shown here, supplied by LEGO, are put into play as a single set. Deadline set at 11th January 2020 next at 23pm.

76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO

Today we take a quick look at the LEGO Speed Champions set 76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO (663 pieces - 64.99 €), a box to the glory of the Italian brand which allows us to obtain two very different vehicles.

I'm not going to give you the usual verse on the offset steering wheel and the countless stickers that dress the two vehicles, it's like the previous sets. As a bonus, the green of the stickers of the Urus ST-X SUV is not the same as that of the body parts, we are starting to get used to these often subtle but disappointing color differences.

The set has the advantage of offering two very different constructions in terms of form and substance: The Huracán and the SUV have in common only the brand that makes them. Overall, the two LEGO versions are relatively faithful to the reference models and they also benefit from the move to 8 studs wide. The front of the Huracán is particularly successful with rather convincing angles and imitation of the hood openings. The central fin is integrated with an almost elegant solution that knows how to be discreet when all the parts are in place.

Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO

76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO

On closer inspection, there are obviously some approximations: the banner of sponsor Roger Dubuis on the pad-printed windshield should have been straight to really stick to the reference model. We also regret the aesthetic inconsistency between the rare golden pieces and the impressions of the stickers which theoretically should be of the same shade.

By comparing the two visuals above, we see as usual that the passage to 8 studs only partially allows better reproduction of the curves of vehicles with a very "organic" design. It's much better than some previous models in the LEGO Speed Champions range although it's not always perfect.

This Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO in version 2019 uses the new chassis and the new axles already seen on other vehicles in the 2020 range. We will retain the few interesting sub-assemblies at the nose and (fixed) doors of the car and as usual the slew of Wedges with 45 ° cut-outs which come to the aid of the designer in the most complicated places to reproduce on the body.

76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO

The Lamborghini Urus ST-X in a LEGO version, for its part, offers a slightly different building experience than the other vehicles in the range. The chassis here is made up of plates to be assembled with a raised rear axle that really gives the Italian brand's competition SUV allure.

The windshield strip is like the other vehicle in this box aligned with the curve of the room and that's a shame. I would have preferred a straight strip aligned on the junction with the roof of the vehicle. The front and rear of the SUV are convincing with techniques that allow to stick to the design of the reference model. No stickers for the headlights, certainly symbolic at the front with a single small black piece, but it was successful.

It is on the sides of the SUV that it spoils a little with a stall embodied by an overlay of parts and stickers to reproduce half of the rear windows. We find ourselves on arrival with a transparent half-glass and a black sticker which gives the curve of the surface concerned. It's ridiculously ugly. As a bonus, the stickers are deliberately designed with a large margin compared to the size of the room on which they take place, either we choose to center them perfectly and there remains an unattractive border, or to shift them so as not to lose the continuity of pattern or color. It's up to you.

The rims have their small effect on the wheels which clearly protrude from the bodywork. However, this is not the case on the reference model, but the designer will have chosen to reinforce the sporting side of the vehicle here. Why not.

Lamborghini Manage ST-X

76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO

We can discuss the choice of color for the body of the LEGO version, but I quite like this lime green which gives the SUV some pizzazz. Everything is not perfect on this second model, but it really makes me want to see LEGO decline other SUVs in this Speed Champions range, even if they are not always models used in competition with why not a Porsche Cayenne, an Audi Q7 or a BMW X6.

In this box, LEGO provides us with two pilots obviously dressed in a jumpsuit in the colors of the brand of this derivative product all in the glory of Lamborghini. Good news, there is a female pilot in this set. It is also necessary to build a starting gantry which allows to change the color of the lights by sliding the central element of the construction. I would gladly exchange this accessory without much interest for 5 or 10 euros less on the public price of the set. Anyone can DIY a gantry crane from their loose parts and I expect from the LEGO Speed Champions range only detailed vehicles sold at a fair price.

76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO

In short, this set has its faults but it also offers two interesting models to assemble and display. The pleasure of assembling exceptional vehicles in the LEGO version is sometimes a little spoiled by the laborious steps of installing the stickers, but we do with it.

64.99 €, it is however a bit expensive for two vehicles, two minifigs and a gantry, so we will wait until the price of this box drops significantly at Amazon and others before cracking.

Note: The set shown here, supplied by LEGO, is fun to play. Deadline set at 9th January 2020 next at 23pm.

01/01/2020 - 00:02 In my opinion... Lego news

Happy New Year 2020 to all!

One more more! If I had been told a few years ago that the Hoth Bricks adventure would continue this far, I probably wouldn't have believed it. This past year has seen the arrival of new LEGO fans, like every year, on the site, whose global audience has continued to grow. Parents keen to learn about their children's sudden passion for little plastic bricks, adult fans who closely follow the news of their favorite product or teenage fans who are looking for the best options to optimize the management of their pocket money , the site welcomes more than ever all fan profiles, without restriction or elitism.

It is a real satisfaction and I obviously thank all those who by their comments, their emails or their contacts via social networks contribute from near or far to animate this space. A site without interactions is a one-way street and that's not what I want to offer. My opinion is only valid because it is shared or disputed, I do not pretend to serve absolute truths throughout an article or review. Without being a discussion forum as such, the site generates more and more interactions today and that is its raison d'être. Without you, Hoth Bricks would ultimately have little interest and just one more blog in the already crowded little world of LEGO.

Useful advice that is close to my heart and that I will never tire of repeating: don't sacrifice anything for a box of LEGO. Don't go into debt to buy LEGOs. Plastic cannot be eaten, and it does not sell for as expensive as some people would like to believe, especially when it is urgent to act. If personal constraints force you to put this passion aside temporarily, don't worry, nothing is final, you can come back to it later.

Next year, I hope that you will continue, as you have been doing for nine years already for some of you, to come and interact with other fans in these pages. A passion only really makes sense if it can be shared with others, even if they don't agree with you.

I wish you all a Happy New Year 2020.

75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack

Today we are quickly interested in the LEGO Star Wars set 75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack (102 pieces - € 14.99), a small box that features characters more or less inspired by the series The Mandalorian whose first season has just ended on the Disney + platform.

Fans of the Star Wars universe will obviously be delighted to be able to add a few colorful Mandalorians to their collection, but beyond that I think a closer look at the set misses its point a bit.

If you haven't seen the first season of the series and that you prefer to wait for the availability of the Disney + platform in France, scheduled for March 2020, before you start watching the eight episodes, do not read on.

75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack

This box makes a priori direct reference to the third episode of the series, with a scene in which the one who is in fact called Din Djarin escapes from the city of Nevarro carrying the one we now nickname "Baby Yoda" . Surrounded by a small army of Bounty Hunters, the hero is supported by his colleagues who land in "mode"Mandalorians Assemble!"to allow him to set sail.

Where the set misses what it tries to reproduce a little, it is by the absence of jetpacks for the minifigs delivered in the box. The Mandalorians who arrive as reinforcements disembark by air and we do not find this accessory in the set.

Instead, LEGO delivers us a Speeder-Bike almost identical to the one seen in the set 7914 Mandalorian Battle Pack marketed in 2011 and which has little to do there. The machine is only used as a pretext to confirm the designation "construction toy" of the product, as is always the case for Battle Packs.

Another slightly annoying detail, the presence of coarse blasters which offer a certain playability to the product but which really struggle to reproduce the weaponry of the characters seen on the screen. Those of Speeder-Bike are sufficient and LEGO could have provided classic blasters to enhance the "realism" of the set. After all, no one is going to stage a battle with red pieces between Mandalorians who are normally on the same team.

75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack

The four characters provided are all unique by their pad printing, both in terms of design and colors. And it's very well done with a really impressive level of detail. The same goes for the helmets which are also unique and really successful. Since there are no small savings, one of the four characters does not benefit from a detailed pad printing on the legs. We will do with it, it's not dramatic.

Under the four helmets, we get neutral heads, it is in any case not the point here to give a face to these Mandalorians. Two of the helmets benefit from a design with a visor of a shape identical to that of Bo Katan (The Clone Wars, Rebels) and Sabine Wren (Rebellious), we can therefore deduce that these are possibly female characters. The balance is respected, LEGO thus avoids possible criticisms of the type "and why women can't be mandos, etc.."

75267 Mandalorian Battle Pack

If there was one version to reproduce in this set, it was that of the over-armed Mando-Commando which landed in Iron patriot to spray the Bounty Hunters troop with their heavy machine gun. Bad luck, LEGO may not have had the information when creating this Battle Pack.

In short, it's a nice little set more or less "inspired" by the series with four official minifigs really unique from head to toe to line up in our Ribba frames or to stage in a diorama based on the scene from the Episode 3. Too bad for the lack of classic jetpacks and blasters.

Below, another possibility of staging ...
