lego starwars 40658 millennium falcon holiday diorama 1

Today we are very quickly interested in the content of the LEGO Star Wars set 40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama, a small box of 282 pieces which will be available at the retail price of €29.99 from October 1, 2023.

We're not going to lie to each other, this little product vaguely derived from the animated film LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special available on the Disney + platform since 2020 should have been a promotional set offered subject to purchase and it does not really deserve that we have to go to the cash register to afford it.

LEGO has recently been able to please fans of the Harry Potter range with the very successful promotional set 40598 Gringotts Vault, this new box could have suffered the same fate and be offered for example on the occasion of the launch of the next (very) large set of the Star Wars range.

That being said, the proposed staging still allows for a nicely executed piece of the Millennium Falcon's interior that, once stripped of its festive decorations, can potentially serve as the backdrop for a more "serious" diorama.

This is the only advantage of the product, the rest being made up of a few festive decorations without much interest worthy of a bad Advent calendar. It will eventually be necessary to recover the pretty tile which covers Dejarik's table in three versions of the Millennium Falcon since 2015 or buy a retail copy to give this interior a bit of character but the construction offered here seems to me to be a good start overall.

We will also and above all note the presence of a manual of the perfect Jedi with a nicely pad-printed cover but with the Tile interior without pattern, it is the only really interesting accessory of the product.

As for the various characters provided, only Rey Skywalker and Finn are worth seeing with their ugly Star Wars-themed Christmas sweaters.

It's always that extra to come and feed an already well-filled collection of Star Wars figurines in festive outfits and these two minifigs which join those already delivered in the past in various Advent calendars such as Darth Vader and Poe Dameron (75279 Advent Calendar 2020), the Mandalorian and Grogu (75307 Advent Calendar 2021), C-3PO and R2-D2 (75340 Advent Calendar 2022), Palpatine and an Ewok (75366 Advent Calendar 2023 ) have at least the merit of being original with pretty pad printing on their respective torsos.

We get in passing Chewbacca, BB-8 and a Porg, no particular effort has been made on the aesthetic level for the three characters to participate more actively in the party.

30 € for a box of this caliber is obviously a bit expensive knowing that there are only two new characters on arrival and that the staging is rather minimalist. We are not going to complain about being entitled from time to time to a product a little more second degree than usual in a range that often purrs with great fanfare of reissues and products without real flavor.

Anyway, in my opinion, there is more interesting content here with 282 pieces than in an Advent calendar of 320 pieces filled with uninteresting mini-things and sold for 37.99 € and the scene could easily end up on the corner of the convenient during the holiday season.

bricklink designer program series 1 lego

It was predictable: LEGO decided that the invitational pilot initiative around the Bricklink Designer Program 2021 was convincing enough to perpetuate it and make it a sustainable business tool.

The manufacturer is therefore launching the 1st series of what must become a regular program on the Bricklink platform with a defined schedule as indicated below and some subtle modifications compared to the previous edition:

  • February 1 -> 28, 2023 : Project submission phase
  • March 7 -> 31, 2023 : Opening of the public voting phase
  • April - May 2023 : Review phase of selected projects
  • End of May 2023 : Announcement of the selected projects
  • February 2024 : Opening of the pre-order phase
  • Summer / Fall 2024 : Production and shipment of products

As you will have understood, it will be necessary to show a lot of patience before being able to have one or more of the projects proposed and validated delivered.

Also be aware that each set that will have to be assembled at least 3000 votes will be produced at 20.000 products and that it will only be possible to buy two copies maximum of the same product.

The presence of stickers will be limited to a maximum of 1 sticker per 250 elements for all sets that will be produced with a limitation of a maximum of 25 unique stickers per product.

Instruction booklets will still be provided digitally and creators will collect royalties of 5% of sales volume. The percentage has therefore halved but the quantity of sets produced per project has doubled.

This series of crowdfunding products, which is therefore set up in a sustainable way, is not intended to one day replace the LEGO Ideas initiative. The Bricklink Designer Program is also and above all a promotional tool for the Studio software, which serves both as a support for digital creation and as a tool for generating the essential assembly instructions.

A one-hour information session will be organized on December 14 at 17:00 p.m. so that all those who wish to embark on this long adventure can discover the rules and take into account the new requirements of the manufacturer concerning the quality of the projects. It is necessary to register in advance at this address but if you cannot attend this Webinar, a recap video will be posted afterwards.

75329 lego starwars diorama collection death star trench run 1

Today we take a quick tour of the content of the LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection set 75329 Death Star Trench Run, a box of 665 pieces which will be available at the public price of €59.99 from April 26, 2022. This derivative product is the least expensive of the three new references in the LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection launched this year, whose public prices reach up to €89.99. No minifigs in this box, we build here a reproduction in the format microscale surface pursuit of the Death Star with Luke Skywalker's X-wing, Darth Vader's TIE Advanced and two TIE Fighters.

To remain visually accessible, the diorama does not really reproduce the entire trench on the surface of the Death Star seen on the screen and we are satisfied with two nicely textured planes on which we fix the different ships which are at the work in this scene from Episode IV (To New Hope). The work of "greebling", the technique of creating surface details using various and varied elements, is perfectly executed and it almost feels like it. You also have to see the good side of things and despite the somewhat abstract side of the assembly, you will have the right to make a mistake, no one will notice your negligence. It may lack a little contrast on arrival on the gray surfaces but the lighting of the exhibition room will take care of compensating to create relief.

Gossips will only see a paid promotional product here, barely more opulent than when LEGO offers mini-dioramas during certain events around the Star Wars license. The assembly of this 22 cm long by 15 cm wide and 10 cm high diorama is also quickly dispatched and it is difficult to imagine the presence of more than 600 parts in this construction. They are however there, they are mostly small elements used to texture the surface of the Death Star. The set is relatively fragile on arrival, the four vessels are only maintained by a simple tenon and you will have to be careful when moving.

The TIE fighters provided in this box are really token renditions of barely the level of what you get every year in the LEGO Star Wars Advent calendars, but Luke's X-wing on the other hand looks particularly neat to me. No stickers in this box, the three TIE canopies already seen in the set 75315 Imperial Light Cruiser marketed since 2021 are therefore stamped just like the R2-D2 micro-dome visible on the back of the X-wing, a part that we will certainly see again in future polybags or Advent calendars.

75329 lego starwars diorama collection death star trench run 8

There is no functionality or moving parts in this diorama, although you can place the different ships as you see fit provided you find an available stud elsewhere than in the locations provided. No surprise on the back of the construction, it would have been interesting to place a minfig of Darth Vader or Luke in pilot's outfit to fuel the conversations. We will do without.

La Tile pad-printed with a line of dialogue that becomes the gimmick of this new collection of derivative products displays here a sentence pronounced by Darth Vader during the pursuit in the trench of the Death Star: "...The Force is strong with this one...". I'm much less adamant than the quote displayed on the front of the set. 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor regarding the need to localize the text into other languages, the phrase posted here has become popular enough to stand on its own, no one refers to it by saying "...it's like he's protected by the Force..."as in the French version of the film.

This product is perhaps not the sexiest of the three sets proposed to launch this new collection of dioramas for adult fans, but the scene is in my opinion generally rather well interpreted with a very acceptable level of finish. The format microscale deprives this product of staged minifigs but that's not so bad because it's also the least expensive of the three advertised references.

If you take two and place them face to face, you get a real trench and an extra X-wing for the late Biggs Darklighter. If you place them back to back, you get nice bookends, perhaps a little light, to frame your collection of comics or beautiful books on the Star Wars universe.

This set is the cheapest of the three but it is not a product that I consider affordable. 60 € for that is much too expensive in absolute terms even if we all know here that fans of the Star Wars license will be more vindictive of the increase in the price of a liter of diesel by a few cents than about of a few grams of plastic sold at exorbitant prices. Everyone has their own priorities.

lego black friday cyber monday vip weekend 2021

The calendar of promotional offers planned for the traditional VIP weekend and Black Friday 2021 is now confirmed by LEGO: the VIP weekend will take place on November 21 and 22 and this operation will be followed by Black Friday 2021 on November 26, 2021 then Cyber Monday on November 29, 2021.

It is not yet known what the VIP weekend offers will be in addition to the usual doubling of VIP points over the period and LEGO indicates that these offers will be unveiled on November 15 at the latest. We can imagine that the set offered to members of the VIP program will be the camera to build, a first visual a little blurry currently circulating on the usual channels. For the rest, we have to be content with the very vague description of the event by LEGO which promises us "... new sets, special gifts for certain qualifying purchases, VIP rewards and offers you won't find anywhere ..."
