The LEGO Movie

If you are a fan of the LEGO Star Wars range and all the current media circus surrounding the planned release in February 2014 of The LEGO Movie annoys you, I'll give you a good reason to take a closer look at the movie (or not): Several characters from the LEGO Star Wars universe are expected to make appearances in the movie.

Le Wall Street Journal who casually gives the precise information that he has no details on the choice of the characters who will be present in the film.

A rumor from the end of October spoke of the possible presence of Han Solo's minifigure in the film based on a mention present in the voice casting of the film, since retired, on IMDB.

After the DC Comics super heroes (Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern ...), LEGO ensures the presence in the rooms of fans of the Star Wars range who would not want to miss an appearance of theirs for the world. favorite minifigs. I may add a little more, but it is undoubtedly the "marketing" choice which was made.

The Wall Street Journal adds that it is not surprising that Warner Bros. incorporates the DC Comics characters since the license belongs to Time Warner but that the presence of LEGO Star Wars characters in the film may be the result of an agreement between Warner and Lucasfilm predates Disney's buyout of the Star Wars license in 2012.

Unless it is LEGO which leads the dance and chooses the ranges that will be part of this giant advertisement for its products (that's me saying that).

LEGO contest on auchan.fr

Update of 12/11/20913: It is indeed an error in the rules, it is enough to order for 50 € of LEGO products to participate in the draw (see comments).

An initiative a priori nice on the part ofauchan.fr which organizes from November 11 to 13 a big LEGO competition whose participation methods are ultra-simple or almost as indicated in the banner above:

You must place an order of at least € 50 of LEGO products (excluding shipping costs) on the site auchan.fr to be automatically entered in the draw which will designate 10 winners.

These winners will receive a complete collection of sets from the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes range including the sets 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown, 6867 Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape, 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout, 6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle, 76004 Spider-Man Spider-Cycle Chase, 76005 Spider-Man Daily Bugle Showdown, 76006 Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle, 76007 Iron Man Malibu Mansion Attack et 76008 Iron Man vs. The Mandarin Ultimate Showdown.

But beware, there is a problem: the operation regulations which are in pdf format at this address contains a strange mention in the paragraph 3.1 Terms of the game about the obligation to order at least one Nerf product to be in the running for the raffle when the promotional banner indicates that you must order for € 50 of LEGO products.

Either it is a rule already used for a previous operation which has not been modified correctly, or the banner displayed on the first page is clearly misleading and if you trust it, you have no chance of being selected for the draw. Not cool, auchan ...

If someone from the Auchan staff passes by here, and I know that it is regularly the case, that he gives us a quick explanation on this subject, the competition is open until November 13 only ...

LEGO and SLUBAN bury the hatchet

It is by a press release laconic that information fell: LEGO and SLUBAN (Shantou Century Youyi Toys Limited Corporation), a Chinese construction toy manufacturer established in 2004, is making peace after years of legal warfare.

In fact, for many years, LEGO has continued to sue its competitor for the obvious similarities between the products of the two manufacturers. LEGO has also always sued its most serious competitors for patent infringement and has most of the time been unsuccessful.

To protect its expiring patent, LEGO attempted in 1996 to register a photo of a red brick as a Community trademark.

On September 14, 2010, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that the LEGO toy brick could not be registered as a Community trademark. Trademark law cannot allow a company to extend the life of its patent. It follows from this judgment that trademark law cannot therefore be intended to extend the exclusivity of the technical invention. LEGO then changed its strategy by attacking its competitors on other criteria, including the similarities between the products.

The SLUBAN brand is present in France, notably in the stores of the GiFi brand.

No information on the terms of the agreement was communicated. Below is the content of the press release.

"... Agreement between LEGO and SLUBAN

NIEUWERKERK AAN DEN IJSSEL, October 4 - Since 2008, SLUBAN has successfully marketed its building blocks for children in Europe. Since 2011, the brand has been the subject of legal attacks by LEGO, which considers that SLUBAN products are too similar to its own. After several years of disputes, LEGO and SLUBAN have reached an agreement satisfactory to both parties and which will be valid for the whole world. No details are made public. From the second quarter of 2014, SLUBAN will come back in force with an expansion campaign emphasizing its own character ..."
