LEGO reveals to toy professionals the novelties of the second half of 2014 at the London Toy Fair which opened today, and the first account of what is presented has been published by Brick fanatics.
Little info on the four The Hobbit sets planned for October 2014 (References 79015 (101 pieces), 79016 (313 pieces), 79017 (471 pieces) and 79018 (number of pieces unknown)).
However, we remember that Smaug is finally arriving, but that it will be a figurine the size of the dragon from the Castle set. 70403 Dragon Mountain.
We also learn that the minifig of the Witch king which will accompany Galadriel in the set 79105 will be phosphorescent, that the minifig of Elrond present in one of the sets looks like that of the polybag 5000202 offered in 2012 with the LEGO Lord of the Rings video game and that one of the sets will be a kind of extension with 3 buildings from the set 79013 Lake Town Chase released in 2013.
We just have to wait patiently for the next Toy Fair which will be held in Nuremberg in Germany from January 29 to February 3, 2014 ...
I went to see the second part of The Hobbit trilogy in theaters yesterday, and once released, I took a little time to observe with a different perspective the 4 sets released this year, as well as the two sets released in 2012 but relating to the action taking place in The Desolation of Smaug: 79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders et 79004 Barrel Escape.
I must say that I am generally rather convinced by the contents of the boxes. Each of the sets reproduces a scene or a set of scenes from the movie roughly correctly.
There is no question of revealing to you here some of the most successful moments of this film which will keep you going for 2h41, but I still wanted to point out that LEGO has done a great job of adapting films into derivative products on this range.
Obviously, I regret the minimalist side of some boxes in their interpretation: The too small boat of the set 79013 Lake Town Chase or the low number of barrels in the set 79004 Barrel Escape are elements of disappointment.
The minifigs are superb, nothing to say. Bard The Bowman, Thranduil, Tauriel or even Radagast are really faithful to the characters of the film. The identification is immediate and each minifigure takes on another dimension when you have seen the film.
I even manage to be indulgent with the few walls of the set 79014 Dol Guldur Battle and the door of the set 79011 Dol Guldur Ambush (The two sets can be combined) which are visually very close, for LEGO, to the aesthetic of the movie.
I remind you that The Hobbit novelties are available on the Lego shop and amazon.
Here is the first list of sets planned for the end of 2013.
The and 79013 Lake Town Chase is known, it was officially presented at the last San Diego Comic Con.
For the rest, we will have to wait a little longer to know the exact contents of these boxes.
No big set likely to contain Smaug in this list, but we are not immune to an exclusive box that will be announced by LEGO in the coming weeks / months ...
The list of sets:
79011 Dol Guldur Ambush (UK retail price £ 19.99)

79013 Lake Town ChaseUK price £ 49.99)
79014 Dol Guldur BattleUK price £ 69.99)
